Fitness is a major component of Ashley Perkins Showers’ lifestyle. The small-town Maui girl played sports throughout high school, excelling in basketball, soccer, and track. Working out and staying active stuck with her and even inspired her to leave her 9-to-5 office job and join the team at ASICS more than a year ago.
“It wasn’t for me, sitting behind a desk eight to nine hours a day,” Showers says. Looking for a career that aligned more with her values, she found ease in connecting with her colleagues who shared the same love for fitness.”
Here’s some daily tips from Showers for maintaining a healthy body and mind:
1. Try to do something active for at least 30 minutes every day, whether it’s going for a walk, jog, or even just taking the stairs.
2. Save some gas. If its close, don’t drive. Just walk!
3. Be mindful of the things you eat. It’s okay to have a cheat day, but be mindful of what you put in your body.
4. Don’t sweat the small stuff! The effects of stress can have a major toll on us, both in the short and long term.
5. Get your vitamin D. We live in a place where we’re lucky enough to enjoy the sun. Get out there and soak it up!
Her favorite spot to run?
Ala Moana Beach Park
“I really like how there’s a path that I can follow and that it’s so near to the beach, so it’s a little bit cooler,” Showers says of the 2-mile run. “There are many other routes within this one that could be shortened, if 2 miles is too long of a running route.”
Despite her busy schedule as assistant manager at ASICS, located on Level 1 of International Market Place, Showers makes it a point to work out six days a week. CrossFit is her preferred workout because of its intense weightlifting combined with high-interval training. When she’s not in the gym, she stays active and resets with swimming, hot yoga, and running.
